Batch pick & sort

Batch pick & sort using RF devices allows to optimize the pick operations by using the integrated sorting operation. The strategy is intended for distribution centers and production environments with a large variety of SKU’s, extended operations, and short delivery times.

Advantages:

  • Less pickers will be required in the aisles, and the driving distances of the pickers will be reduced.
  • The order throughput time can be minimized, which increases customer satisfaction.
  • It can be avoided that too much variety of SKUs is put on pick carts.
Figure: Batch Pick & Sort: Concept example

As displayed on the figure, pickings for different orders are executed in one motion. As opposed to multi-order picking, the SKUs are not yet placed per order on a pick cart, but picking is done in bulk. The SKUs will then be brought to the sorting area, where sorting out is done per order.

NOTE:

  • The batch pick & sort functionality is intended for SKU picking, not for LPN picking.
  • Batch pick & sort is only used for outbound, not production.
