Adjust the SPC card

You can visualize the SPC card in different ways by changing the type of card. By card type, you can set various options.

  1. Open the SPC card.
  2. From the drop-down menu Chart Type, choose one of the following options:
    Card typeExplanation
X - R This type of card displays the evolution of the average of the measurements (X-bar) at the top and the difference between the highest and the lowest value (Range) of the measurements at the bottom.
X This type of card shows the evolution of the average of the measurement (X-bar).
R This type of card shows the difference between the lowest and the highest value (Range) of the measurement.
X - H This type of card left shows the evolution of the average measurement (X-bar) and on the right the histogram
Histogram This type of card shows the distribution of the measurements which were recorded.
Tabular This type of card shows on top a list of measurements and down a list of measurement values.
  3. From the drop-down menu Data Type , choose one of the following options:
    • Default, the measured values are shown or when having a histogram, the number of times that a measuring value was registered is spread.
    • DNOM, the nominal value is spread. For example, with a card type X-R the difference between the measured value and the target value are spread in the upper graph, the difference between the highest nominal value and the lowest nominal value is spread in the bottom (range) graph.
If the target was adjusted, use the nominal values via the data type DNOM.
  4. From the drop-down list Domain Axis , choose one of the following options:
    • Default, the measurements are placed at a fixed distance from one another.
    • Time based, the axis becomes a time axis, the measurements are spread in time, based on the point of time of the measurement.
  5. From the drop-down list Value , choose one of the following options:
    • X, the average value of the measurement is shown.
    • Minimum, the minimum value of the measurement is displayed.
    • Maximum, the maximum value of the measurement is displayed.

With the card type Histogram from the drop-down list value choose one of the following options:

    • Average Values, the average value of the measurements are displayed.
    • Individual values, the values of the measurements is shown.
The average of the measurements is very close to the default value, but it may have come from measurements that differ greatly from each other. Therefore the histogram should also be viewed based on individual values.
  6. Mark one or more of the following options (depending on the chosen card type):
    OptionsExplanation
    Show CL

Mark to show the control limit of the measurement on the card:

    • UCL (Upper Control Limit), represents the upper control limit (optional).
    • CL (Control Limit), represents the set standard value.
    • LCL (Lower Control Limit), represents the lower control limit (optional).
    Show ABC

Check to show the ABC zones:

    • A zone (green): default value ± 1 x standard deviation (±s)
    • B zone (yellow): default value ± 2 x standard deviation (±2s)
    • C zone (pink): default value ± 3 x standard deviation (±3s)
    Show SL

Mark to show the specification limits of the measurement on the card:

    • USL (Upper Specification Limit), represents the upper specification limit (optional).
    • LSL (Lower Specification Limit), represents the lower specification limit (optional).
Show Min/Max Mark to show, minimum and maximum value, next to the average value.
Show Individual Values Histogram Mark to show the measurement values of the measurements in the histogram.
Show Excluded Points Mark if you want the measurement points that were excluded to still show on the map. The measurement points are shown in gray.
