Optimize an offline planning

Using the wizard 'Optimize Planning', the user can choose the preferred optimization criteria and stop conditions.
  1. Choose Production Management > Planning Cells in the Navigation Pane.
  2. Select the planning cell.
  3. Choose the tab Planning.
  4. Click Edit Planning .
  5. Click Optimize Planning .
The dialog box Optimize Planning Wizard appears.
  6. The configuration <Default> cannot be edited. If required, view this configuration and click Finish if OK.
To create a new configuration, click <Custom> in the drop-down menu Configuration. Go to the next step.
  7. In the option group Objectives, click Add Objective .
  8. In the dialog box Add Objective, select one of the following objectives:
    • Minimize Makespan
    • Minimize Tardiness
    • Minimize Maximum Tardiness
    • Minimize Late Orders
    • Minimize Total Lag
    • Minimize Resource Usage
    • Minimize Changeovers

    Click OK.

Repeat this step to add more objectives.

Click Remove Objective to remove an objective from the list.

Click Edit Objective to replace the selected objective in the list.
At least one objective has to be determined.
  9. The objectives are applied in the specified sequence. Use arrows Move Up and Move Down to change the sequence.
  10. If required, check Frozen Horizon in the option group Options. In the drop-down menu, select Time, Productive Time of Shifts (incl. current) and specify the time or the number of shifts to determine how far in advance the planned jobs will be frozen.
  11. Where applicable, check one of the following options:
    FieldExplanation
Allow appending after operations in the frozen horizon Jobs can still be added after the last jobs in the frozen horizon.
Allow inserting between operations in the frozen horizon Jobs can still be added both after the last jobs as between the other jobs in the frozen horizon.
If none of the 2 options has been checked, jobs can never be added in the frozen horizon.
  12. The system continues to search for better options until one of the stop conditions is reached. The following stop conditions can be set in the option group Stop Conditions:
    Stop ConditionExplanation
Maximum number of iterations Set the maximum number of iterations the system will pass through.
Maximum number of non-improving iterations Set the maximum number of non-improving iterations the system will pass through.

For example: if the system was not able to find an improvement in the passed 20 iterations, it will stop.

Maximum optimization time Set the maximum calculation time of the system. Once this time limit has been exceeded, the most optimal planning proposition until that point will be offered.
At least one stop condition has to be determined.
  13. Click Finish.
Before applying the planning, Objective checks that the new planning is not delayed too much. Planned operations that are overdue by more than 5 minutes, are updated and moved to the current point in time.
  14. Where applicable, confirm the planning update in the dialog box Apply Changes.
The scheduling server must be launched to enable the scheduler.
  15. If you want to put a planning online, select the planning proposition in the list and click Apply at the bottom.
Other copies that may have been generated and modified in the offline mode will no longer be available.
